First Frost

Colorado has always been well-known for its abundant sunshine and abundant snow. This season, though, it’s been nothing but abundant sunshine, in some places at least. While the mountains have been ravaged by fresh powder, while the southeastern side was pummeled by a raging blizzard, all we had to speak of here in the foothills was a half inch of slush that evaporated by noon. Why the bitter contrast? Maybe to get us out and moving, rather than sitting inside curled up in our pajamas by the fire with hot chocolate.
